In the end,...

Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the author, but I'm quite sure what she or he says is really true for all of us. And also they chose a perfect picture to represent it.
(If there's someone who knows who said this...please share, I would be grateful!)

Today I steal yesterday's SwissMiss post and share with you the Ten things I have learned by Milton Glaser. A series of useful advices to follow if you're a graphic designer...or not!

Puppets

Here it is one of the ideas I'll steal when I'll eventually have my own place.
These puppets used to hold the curtains are so cute and funny!

Glasses = Cool

An effective advertising campaign to turn glasses in the coolest object ever. I believe it really does work.

What is Graphic design?

Here there are some really nice posters designed for the "What is Graphic Design?" poster competition. They makes me think that, as usual, the simpler the concept is, the better it reaches the point.

Mint

Internet if full of nice blogs! Here another example: Mint, collection of inspirations by Ellie Snow, graphic designer from the States. It is one of the world's best design blogs according to The Times and in my opinion a really nice plece where to find nice stuff. From now on you'll find it in my lists.

Hamptons International

If you are so lucky to be searching for a place where to live in London, and you have a lot of money to spend, I strongly advice you to take a look to the website of this agency Hamptons International. There are some of the nicest flats I've ever seen. This is an example: incredible view on the Tower Bridge, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 reception and obviously do not worry, 24h concierge/security!

China teapot

This is one of those old and classic objects which are so beautiful that you can put them in the most contemporary kitchen and they will look perfectly "at ease" anyway.

Very simple but so elegant heeled sandals by Valentino.

Etsy vs Vivienne Westwood

Strange but effective comparison:
skin-pink heels, big and extravagant decorations on the front.
Materials? The first one is fabric, the second's rubber.

A-cero

And while in London it's more and more cold, A-cero Architecture Studio makes me dream about the next summer with sun and swimming pools.

Noma Bar

Here there are two examples of the Israeli designer Noma Bar illustrations. It's really interesting how he uses the negative spaces to communicate concepts, even really strong concepts as you can see, and with some simple lines and few colors he has been able to say so many things. Clever and effective indeed!
If you're interested in, he also published a book called Negative Space containig these illustrations.

Sarolta Szulyovszky

Here some examples of Sarolta Szulyovszky's work mentioned in the previous post. The first one is a scenography for a musical, the next two are children's illustrations. I like both the techniques and the peculiarity of the shapes she use to draw usual subjects like human beings and cars.

Change Perspective!

Luca Morandini is a graphic designer and illustrator based in Udine, my home town in Italy. He shares Atelier Design with Sarolta Szulyovszky who's an illustrator as well. I find this drawing pretty hilarious and an effective way to show how simple it is to turn the usual to unusual and funny just changing the point of view.

Words create Worlds

Really pretty and above all effective advertisment for the bookshop Anagram. The slogan is "Words creates Worlds"...I wish they were real!

Alice Q. Foodie

I've found my favourite food blog after Oh Joy Eats. It is called Alice Q. Foodie and the blogger is a lawyer who gives us advices to eat out and recipes to cook in, she likes "local, seasonal and sustainably grown ingredients" as I do and what else to say...congratulations for your blog Alice, it's a masterpiece!
I'll show you some green appetizing food.

Wood vs iMac

Though this is not exactly my idea of "studio", I really love the contrast between rough objects and the brand-new glossy iMac.

Calligraphy and Graphic Design

Certainly this is the next book I'll buy.
It's called Calligraphy and Graphic Design by Marco Campedelli and it collects a number of effective examples of graphic design works made using beautifully created hand made writings.

Old old books

Today I want to show you what I found at my place yesterday. I was looking for a nice book to take pictures of for my Major Project at university and I found this treasure, an old Decamerone (Boccaccio) printed in Milan in the 1932. I think it had an hard cover and it lost it at some point of its life, but it's still fascinating with its yellowish pages and its sharp smell of something that has remained closed for a long time.

Art is everywhere

Art is everywhere, even the smallest and simplest objects could be turn in big masterpieces. This is what Dalton Ghetti does creating mini-sculptures using pencil tips as his "marble blocks".
How did he start? Sharpening his pencils by hand at school obviously!
